Straight teeth are generally healthier teeth. They’re easier to brush and floss, and have fewer places where food debris can get stuck. The younger you receive orthodontic treatment, the better you respond, but what teenager looks forward to braces? At Henry Advanced Orthodontics in St. Augustine, we have an excellent solution with clear braces.
More and more teenagers, and adults too, are improving their smiles with clear braces. Why all the fuss? Because unlike traditional metal braces, clear braces are discreet: so much so, that some people refer to them as invisible. They’re not invisible, but they’re awfully close. People standing just a few feet away might not realize you’re wearing them.
Clear braces like those from Invisalign are made of polyurethane plastic. They fit into your mouth like an athlete’s mouth guard. How, then, do they straighten crooked teeth?
Clear braces are provided as a series of aligners (their proper name). Each aligner is custom-fitted to the patient, and applies pressure that gradually brings teeth into their proper alignment, what dentists call the ideal bite.
Did we mention that clear braces are removable? They really do look like an athlete’s mouth guard. That means you can take them out at mealtime, and when you brush and floss. To be their most effective they should be worn most of the time, including when you sleep. But because they’re removable, a big problem with traditional braces – keeping them, and teeth, clean – is eliminated.
