You’ve invested a lot of time in your teeth by wearing braces. When they finally come off, you have straight teeth and a perfect smile. Great! You want to do everything you can to keep them that way. After braces from Henry Advanced Orthodontics in St. Augustine, that means wearing a retainer.
Why do you need a retainer? After all, your teeth are just the way you want them now. That fact is that once teeth have been realigned in your mouth, they need time to stabilize.
By wearing a retainer, you keep your teeth in their new form. If you didn’t wear them, they would begin to return to their original position. That would mean that all the time – and yes, aggravation – of wearing braces would have been for nothing. Even if you had Invisalign clear braces, there is the retainer period afterward. No matter which type of braces you had, you’ll need a retainer for about the same period of time you them.
We offer our patients three types of retainer. Hawley retainers are made of metal and acrylic. Essix retainers are made from clear plastic, like Invisalign braces. Permanent retainers are attached to the back of the teeth.
Some patients prefer permanent retainers, because they don’t need to remember to put them back in. But most receive either Hawley or Essix retainers.
After your braces fom Henry Advanced Orthodontics in St. Augustine come off, we’ll help you decide which retainer is best for you. We provide traditional braces for patients of all ages, as well as Invisalign clear braces. We also perform orthognathic surgery. Call our office to schedule a consultation.
